The packers come today. I’m hitting the 0630 class before they arrive to help me stay sane, feet on the ground!
A week or so ago we did an exercise that really brought home to me the effect of active feet on the rest of the body. It’s quite a simple & elegant exercise that I’d [...]
There is a new blogger sending thoughts into the world these days. My friend Tara is working on the 21-5-800 project (5 days a week, 800 words, 21 days) and I really love her writing.

In other blogger world connections, I have named my little trouble tweaky spots in emulation of Kai over at Reluctant Ashtangi and [...]
These past few weeks my practice has usually been doing double classes in relatively close (within 90 minutes) succession. It’s an awesome experience to have the luxury of doing a class, getting a Kombucha, then another class. Huge growth opportunity.
Also had a huge emotional & physical upswelling & meltdown right before we went househunting following [...]
The moment I was proudest of during today’s practice was a fall.
Falling can be a scary thing. Working with “Senior” targeted classes I’ve done lots of simple balancing poses & worked on learning to lose/recover balance safely. I used to be more comfortable falling before my back got effed up. Then it became quite a terrifying prospect.
But [...]
Dear Tired,
Thank you. You make me
more efficient; every movement matters
balanced because it’s too much trouble to fall
unable to spin stories
or be afraid
or dread
You make me light
because I don’t have the energy to be heavy
You make me breathe
because that will move my muscles & bones
once I can fight, struggle, force no longer.
The phrase “Emotions in Motion” is a 1982 Billy Squier album, and also a Forrest bumpersticker-y thing. It’s something I’ve seen on t-shirts for years, but didn’t quite get till recently.
See, somehow, this past week I ended up with a surfeit of emotional energy. It has had me up, down, sideways, effervescent, angry, you name it.
The energy part though [...]
Not Dungeons & Dragons, though there’s nuthin wrong with that.
Dizziness & Downloads.
Very separate topics, but two short bits I wanted to share before getting on the road again (this weekend, Burlington, VT!).
Dizziness is one side effect I have from the medications I’m on.

The meds are amazing in many many ways. Predominantly, they quiet [...]
This weekend’s Forrest Yoga Mentorship workshop with Heidi will focus on “seeing” or intuition.
When I went down to see her two weekends ago, I asked about how to practice my intuition… it’s something I’m quite interested in getting in touch with. Mostly because I seem to know fewer & fewer facts each day so I [...]
First, a disclaimer. That is not my back. I am waaaaaay too chicken to get a tattoo.
During my visit to New Haven, mentoress Heidi offered some really good advice to help with my continuing back rehab. I’m at the stage now where I’m painfree most of the time, but there is some sensation [...]
Sometimes when I’m a student in a class (NOT Forrest classes), I see people fighting their way into a pose that obviously totally, umm, hurts like bejesus. There is huffing & puffing & grimacing & squinching of the eyes & it is painful to look at, much less do.
Now I am a big fan of going deep [...]
